AOSW 2024 Awards and Scholarships

These scholarships and awards are supported through generous donations of supporters, including our own members.  Therefore, each award and/or scholarship may not be available due to funding availability.  Please contact AOSW staff if you’re interested in supporting a specific award or scholarship.

The application deadline for the AOSW Kim Lawson Conference Scholarship, AOSW Naomi Stearns National Conference Scholarship, and the BeiGene sponsored scholarships has been extended to April 19.

AOSW Scholarships

AOSW Kim Lawson Conference Scholarship 

Established to honor AOSW President Kim Lawson, this  scholarship covers the complete cost of conference attendance for an AOSW member who has demonstrated commitment to the profession, including pursuing a PhD or DSW as part of your professional development. Submit an application.

AOSW Naomi Stearns National Conference Scholarship 
Established to honor the first AOSW President, Naomi Stearns, scholarship covers the complete cost of conference attendance for a member who has demonstrated commitment to the profession, including AOSW activity. Submit an application.

BeiGene Sponsored Scholarships

AOSW & BeiGene Conference Scholarship
AOSW & BeiGene Conference Scholarships covers the complete cost of conference attendance for members of AOSW who have recently graduated and who need financial support to attend conference.  Three are available.  Submit an application.

AOSW & BeiGene Student Conference Scholarship
AOSW & BeiGene Student Conference Scholarships defray the covers the complete cost of conference attendance for student members of AOSW who have are planning to graduate within 2024 or 2025 and who need financial support to attend conference.  Ten are available. Submit an application.

AOSW Leadership in Oncology Social Work Award
This award recognizes an exceptional member of AOSW who has significantly contributed to the field of oncology social work and demonstrated leadership through administration, education, clinical practice or research. This award provides up to $1,000 to the recipient and also provides up to $1,500 in reimbursements for hotel, travel, and conference registration.

AOSW Volunteer of the Year Award
Established to honor AOSW volunteers, this up to $1,000 award provides an opportunity to recognize an exceptional, experienced oncology social worker and active volunteer of AOSW. The award is presented to an oncology social worker who, in the day-to-day delivery of compassionate service, is a model for the profession itself. Only AOSW Board or Committee Members can nominate someone for this award, please contact your AOSW staff liaison to do so.  

AOSW Scholarships

AOSW Betty Vargo Palliative Care and End of Life Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of Betty Vargo, a longstanding AOSW member and leader in palliative and end-of-life care. This scholarship supports a student seeking a master’s degree in social work who has a demonstrated interest in end-of-life care as evidenced in their application and letter of support from a professor or field instructor. 

AOSW Conference Scholarship 
AOSW Conference Scholarships defray the cost of conference attendance for members of AOSW who need financial support to attend. The scholarship provides up to $1,000 to assist with registration, travel and hotel costs.

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

Hematology-Oncology Social Worker of the Year Award
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) recognizes the extraordinary work of a hematology-oncology social worker in the year. This up to $1,500 award is sponsored by LLS and presented at the opening session of the Association of Oncology Social Work (AOSW) National Conference.

Hematology-Oncology Lifetime Achievement Award
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) recognizes a professional leader for their career of support for patients with blood cancer and ongoing involvement with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The up to $1,500 award is sponsored by LLS and presented at the opening session of the Association of Oncology Social Work (AOSW) National Conference.
