Session Description: 

 In the landscape of oncology, clinical trials represent more than just medical progress—they represent hope, access, and the future of survivorship. However, for many patients and families, the world of clinical research can feel opaque and intimidating. As oncology social workers, we are the essential bridge between the clinical team and the patient’s lived experience. This workshop explores the critical importance of clinical research education, providing participants with the tools to demystify the research process and advocate for equitable access to life-saving treatments.

Dr. Joy Malbrough, PhD, LMSW, is a seasoned healthcare leader and social work scholar with over 20 years of experience. As a Senior Community Clinical Manager and Regional Lead at Inside Edge Consulting Group, she champions health equity by bridging the gap between clinical research and community engagement. Dr. Malbrough is a dedicated advocate for increasing representative participation in research to ensure medical advancements benefit all populations. Through her proprietary The CALMM Approach©, she integrates clinical rigor with a deep passion for community-led solutions, mentoring the next generation of professionals to view health equity as a fundamental right.

This organization, Association of Oncology Social Workers, ACE Approval #1351, is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 11/11/25 – 11/11/28.  Social workers completing this course receive 1.0 cultural competency continuing education credits.
