New pathogens seem to pop up with great regularity in our world, creating panic in health care staff, government officials and the public. A review will be conducted of the pathogen progression (which has led to panic) up to this pandemic with a novel coronavirus. There will be a discussion of the Chain of Transmission and how remembering these six links can help prepare participants for the next ‘new’ threat.
Learning Objectives
At the end of the presentation, the participant will be able to:
- Discuss the frequency of new organisms in the health care world
- Describe the ease—or difficulty—in killing ‘new’ organisms with disinfectants
- List the six links in the ‘Chain of Transmission’
- List at least two factors that make oncology patients a susceptible host
