AOSW is pleased to partner with the Association of Cancer Care Centers (ACCC) for a collaborative webinar on April 30. As part of this partnership, AOSW will offer continuing education (CE) with its original fee structure to eligible live attendees who complete the AOSW evaluation within 30 days of the event. Session Description: 

Mental health needs among people affected by cancer continue to outpace the availability of psychosocial oncology services. Artificial intelligence and emerging digital technologies offer new opportunities to expand access, personalize support, and enhance the reach of supportive care teams. This session will explore how AI is beginning to shape the future of psychosocial oncology while highlighting practical opportunities and considerations for integrating these tools into cancer care.

Jennifer Bires, MSW, LCSW, OSW-C, CST

Jennifer Bires, LCSW, OSW-C, CST, is an innovative leader in the field of psychosocial oncology with over 15 years of experience
building patient centered, supportive care programs for patients and families impacted by cancer. In her current role at Inova Schar
Cancer Institute, Jennifer leads a team of oncology behavioral health therapists, social workers, nurse navigators and oncology
dieticians, ensuring that patients and those who support them have access to psychosocial care and education, at no cost to them, to
help cope with cancer and its impact on their well-being. Additionally, she oversees the Arts and Healing program utilizing the arts as
a modality of healing. Her clinical specialties include sexual health, young adults with cancer and end of life care. Jennifer is a
current PhD candidate in Palliative Care at the University of Maryland, Baltimore exploring the use of psychedelics as a behavioral
health treatment modality for people impacted by cancer. She earned her master’s degree in social work from Washington University
in Saint Louis, and her bachelor’s degree at Clemson University. She was awarded the Oncology Social Worker of the year in 2017
from the Association of Oncology Social Workers, sits on the Leadership Council for the Association of Oncology Nurse Navigators +,
and Board of Trustees for the Association of Cancer Care Centers, is a member of the American Cancer Society National Navigation
Round Table and is a past chair for the Board of Oncology Social Work.

 Teresa van Oort, MHA, MSSW, LCSW-S, FAOSW

Teresa van Oort, MHA, MSSW, LCSW-S, Sr. Project Manager at University of Chicago Medicine in Chicago, IL. Ms. van Oort’s work primarily focuses on partnering with surgical teams to improve their patient care through enhanced clinical pathways and institutional ACP. She is also currently a Part-time Lecturer at The University of Chicago, Crown School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice teaching classes focused on social work’s role in healthcare settings and ethics.

Teresa worked in consulting with Advisory Board Company after completing an Executive Fellowship and becoming Assistant Market Administrator with Kindred. After which she obtained her MSSW completing her clinical internship in the critical care step down unit with Seton. She then transitioned to MD Anderson Cancer Center where Teresa first worked on the Lymphoma/Myeloma unit as a Social Work Counselor providing coordination of patient’s bio-psycho-social needs, comprehensive assessment, and counseling services. During her time at MD Anderson, Teresa developed a comprehensive oncology social work productivity model, currently being validated at 4 NCI facilities. She’s spoken at local and national conference on ACP, suicide assessment, and productivity metrics.

Ms. van Oort received a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) at Texas Tech University, a Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) at Texas State University and a Master of Science in Social Work (MSSW) degree from the University of Texas at Austin.

Learning Objectives: 

  1. Describe emerging applications of artificial intelligence in psychosocial oncology and mental health supportive care.
  2. Identify opportunities for AI and digital tools to expand access to mental health support for patients with cancer and their caregivers.
  3. Develop practical considerations, including ethical, clinical, and implementation challenges, when integrating AI into supportive oncology care.

This organization, Association of Oncology Social Workers, ACE Approval #1351, is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 11/11/25 – 11/11/28.  Social workers completing this course receive 1.0 cultural competency continuing education credits.

NEW YORK STATE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT’S STATE BOARD FOR SOCIAL WORK:
Association of Oncology Social Work, Inc., SW CPE is recognized by the New York State Education Department’s State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers #0320.

Completion Requirements:
Social workers must successfully complete a quiz with a 75% passing grade and answer evaluation questions to earn credit for both live and recorded events.
