KUDOS! AOSW Members Achievements
These AOSW members have made some amazing accomplishments. I am humbled to be in such distinguished company.
- Jennifer Bourneuf Carrera, MSW, LCSW (Texas), received the San Antonio Business Journal 2018 “Health Care Hero” Award for her work with young adult cancer survivors. She also received the “Healing Hearts Gala 2018 Honoree Award” from Thrivewell.org, a local organization that helps patients with financial grants, exercise and nutrition programs, and transportation. Jennifer is a Clinical Oncology Social Worker at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio. She provides counseling to cancer patients and their families, oncology programming and is the founder of It’s a C Thing.
- Karlynn BrintzenhofeSzoc, PhD, MSW, FAOSW (Ohio), is one of six faculty members to be accepted as a scholar in the Trans-Disciplinary Research Leadership program at the University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati. The goal of this project is to develop a transdisciplinary team that identifies an issue for project implementation. Karlynn is an associate professor within the School of Social Work at UofC.
- Harold Dean, MSW, LCSW, OSW-C (Arkansas), was honored with the 2018 Legacy Leadership Award from the the Arkansas Division of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. This award recognizes individuals who have contributed significantly to the society’s mission of improving the quality of lives of patients with leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease or myeloma. Harold is the Social Work Program Manager at the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences’ Myeloma Center, Little Rock, AR.
- Donna Hayes, MSW, LCSW, OSW-C (Connecticut), received the “2017 Women Making a Difference in the Valley Award” for outstanding lifetime achievement as a social worker. Donna was also given the 2019 Nicholas Collicelli Legacy Award for community leadership. She is currently the Oncology Social Worker/Psychosocial Coordinator at the Center for Cancer Care at Griffin Hospital in Derby, Conn.
- Kim Keely, LMSW, OSW-C (Texas), presented a webinar titled “Compassion Fatigue: Coping and Caring” to the staff of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition in July. Kim is currently an Oncology Social Worker at UTSW/Simmons Cancer Center in Dallas, Texas.
- Margot Robb, MSSW, LCSW, LAC, OSW-C (Colorado), is now certified in CBT-I to help the Grand Valley Oncology Center’s patients with insomnia. Margot facilitates solution-focused counseling and oversees all support programs. She is currently the sole Oncology Social Worker at the Grand Valley Oncology Center, Grand Junction, CO. This center facilitates presentations on how to complete Advanced Directives and continues to educate individuals on HPV and the vaccinations needed to prevent HPV cancers.
- And, congratulations to Jordan Burghardt, AOSW Member Services Manager, on her wedding on August 31.

Dr. Brittany Nwachuku is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW-S), Board-Certified Oncology Social Worker (OSW-C), and Qualified Administrator (QA) of the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI). Dr. Nwachuku received her Doctor of Education degree from the University of Pittsburgh and Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Social Work degrees from the University of Louisville’s Raymond A. Kent School of Social Work. She has numerous years of experience in medical and mental health settings. Dr. Nwachuku’s clinical experience of working with diverse populations includes, juvenile probation, foster care youth, school social work, private practice, and oncology healthcare settings. In addition, she has provided clinical and administrative supervision to social work students, interns, and professionals, while facilitating a wide range of cancer support groups, educational lectures, and professional development to staff on best practices for diverse and underserved patient populations. Presently, Dr. Nwachuku is an Assistant Professor of Social Work at Alliant International University. She serves as a member of the Ethics Committee for the National Association of Social Workers Ohio Chapter (NASW-OH) and the President-Elect for the Association of Oncology Social Workers (AOSW). Her research specialties include equity and inclusion, psychosocial oncology care, grief and bereavement, and women's health disparities.
