Around AOSW
I hope you will find this special post-conference edition of AOSW Navigator to be an inspiring challenge as we continue the work of psychosocial care throughout the year. I enjoy seeing the pictures of our Annual Conference “homecoming” and the smiling faces of our award and scholarship recipients. I’m reminded of the depth of resources that are available on an ongoing basis to AOSW members.

Social Media: Finding Inspiration and Making Connections at the 2017 Annual Conference
The 2017 AOSW 33rd Annual Conference in Denver has come to a close, and what a conference it was! Social media was abuzz with reflections and tidbits from the various sessions. Some conference-goers made connections, while others found inspiration in the presentations. Others found much needed information at the booths in the Exhibitor Hall. If you weren’t able to attend this year, consider coming to #AOSW2018 in Atlanta. Or even better, submit an abstract proposal! But don’t delay. The abstract submission deadline is September 11, 2017.
Here is just a small sampling of the many social media posts from the 2017 Annual Conference…
The Annual Conference from the View of a Presenter
Here I am, an oncology social worker standing in front of a room, asking you to learn from me. I’ve presented at AOSW and many other conferences multiple times. But the butterflies of excitement, nervousness, dread, fear and hope still rumble in my stomach every time I get up in front of you.

Education Director's Report
I hope those of you who attended the 2017 AOSW 33rd Annual Conference in Denver are energized and thinking of the take-home messages of the presentations, which showcased our theme of “Elevating Compassion, Experience and Vision.” In response to feedback from previous conference evaluations, the 2017 Conference Committee worked tirelessly to provide a conference that embraced new levels of presentations and CE opportunities—e.g., Clinical Practical Intensives and the SIG presentations.

Director's Report: Communications
Communication is the art of transmitting thoughts, feelings and facts from one entity to another. It is a two-way experience of both sending and receiving information that can be written, verbal, electronic—even visual or tactile. As social workers, we practice this art daily. The art of effective communication is now more important than ever, especially in today’s rapidly changing healthcare environment. So, in this vein, I want to explain how we are striving to improve the effectiveness of our internal communications (SWON and Kentico Communities) and our external (public) communication pathways (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, AOSW blog).

Blood Cancer and Bone Marrow Transplant SIG: Survivorship Care
Thanks to all the social workers who attended the Blood Cancer and Bone Marrow Transplant SIG meeting at the AOSW Annual Conference in Denver. Your dedication, knowledge and energy were amazing despite the 6:15 p.m. meeting time. We discussed many topics such as the practical processes of BMT programs, contraindications to transplant and financial barriers. One topic of great interest was survivorship care.
