Director’s Report—Education: An Exciting Time
It’s an exciting time in the education arena of AOSW. Not only do we continue to provide webinars for our members, but we have also been asked by Pharmacyclics, An AbbVie Company, to partner with them and produce patient- and caregiver-focused webinars for those living with chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
Topics for this series will include:
- CLL Bootcamp–An Overview for Patients & Caregivers
- Clinical Trials–How to Access/What to Expect
- Financial Assistance/Resources
- Emotional Well-Being/Self-Care
- Communicating with Your Health Care Team and Loved Ones
- Preparing for Treatment/Transplant–What to Expect
- Life Adjustments Before/After Transplant for the Patient and Caregiver
- Increasing Patient and Caregiver Knowledge and Confidence
- Disclosure–Who do I tell, What do I tell and When?
We are extremely grateful to share in such an important educational opportunity with Pharmacyclics. This webinar series will be a free offering and will be archived on the AOSW website. Please be on the lookout for additional information to share with your patients and caregivers.
Additionally, we are venturing into a partnership with Be The Match, and are pleased to offer a free CE webinar later this year on clinical trials. Thank you, Be The Match, for this opportunity.
AOSW continues its long-standing partnership with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) and are thankful to them for offering a free webinar for AOSW members July 11, 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. EST. Topics for this webinar include:
- Overview of blood cancers
- Clinical trials
- Psychosocial considerations for blood cancer patients
- LLS psychosocial, education and financial resources, and the CTSC
- LLS CE resources for social workers
We are grateful to LLS for the years of support and look forward to continuing our partnership.
I want to give a huge thank you to the 2019 AOSW Conference Committee. From planning to execution, this dedicated team worked tirelessly and enthusiastically. Thank you Morgan Gonzales (Chair), Holly Adams, Eleanor Bruin, Gerrie Jacobs and Katie Schoeppner. As well as the committee, I want to recognize the unparalleled commitment from the Kellen team members, especially resident cheerleader Jordan Burghardt, in making our conference a success.
The 2020 AOSW Conference, Taking Flight: Creating a 2020 Vison in Oncology Social Work, will be held in Raleigh, N.C., June 10-12. Patrice Al-Shatti chairs the committee with members Lisa Capparella, Ellen Levine and Andrea Strouth. SAVE THE DATE!
