It’s a special edition of AOSW Jeopardy, and I’ll take “AOSW Benefits for $1000, Ken.”
The clue: “They are niche communities that welcome all with the opportunities to learn, share and lead in an area of interest that can have a great impact on our patients and with us in contemporary social work practice” (Sandy Blackburn, Co-Leader, Spirituality SIG).
The answer: “What are Special Interest Groups?”
Currently AOSW has 14 SIGs offering diverse opportunities across the spectrum of oncology social work for members to join: AOSW – SIGs. Joining is simple, just update your member profile, and you’ll become a member of the ones you chose. Each group is led by one or more of our members, who are integral to the engagement and vitality of the SIGs. These leaders are rich in experience and desire the groups to be successful in the mission and have their own meeting schedule and communication. (Note: there are three vacancies at this time.)
Most of SIGs plan to meet in person this year at the AOSW Annual Conference in New Orleans and some CE offerings will be available, so be on the lookout for further information. You don’t have to be a member of a SIG to check it out; we would love to see you. Additionally, throughout the year, you will see articles from our SIG leaders/members in the newsletter.
If you are interested in creating a new SIG, there is an opportunity for that! Each SIG must have at least 10 AOSW members and be approved by the AOSW Board before being established. If you are interested in creating a new SIG, please complete this application on our website.
We also have three vacancies in SIG leadership that we are looking to fill:
- Ambulatory Care/Fee for Service
- Brain Tumor
- Ethics
