Call for Applications: Journal of Psychosocial Oncology Editorship
The Association of Oncology Social Work (AOSW) is seeking a new Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Psychosocial Oncology (JPO) who will be officially responsible for the Journal from September 1, 2015 through December 31, 2020.
The duties of the Editor-in-Chief will include:
- Making every effort to publish and actively solicit authoritative, original and high-quality research articles in the field of Psychosocial Oncology.
- Taking responsibility for the scientific content of the Journal of Psychosocial Oncology.
- Continuing to increase the clinical relevance of Journal content.
- Holding full authority to appoint an editorial board that will assist him or her in the peer review process. The general structure (Co-Editors(s)-in-Chief, Deputy Editor(s), Associate Editor(s), is to be agreed upon between the Editor-in-Chief and the Publisher.
- Supervising of the on-line processes of peer review, reviewer selection, and communication with authors. He or she will make every effort to ensure a rapid and efficient review of all submitted papers.
- Maintaining the flow of accepted papers at a level and on a schedule for bi-monthly publication of Journal of Psychosocial Oncology.
- Providing the Publisher with all final text and order of makeup ready for copyediting for each issue of the Journal of Psychosocial Oncology according to the production schedule established by the Publisher.
- Reviewing proofs for each issue of the Journal of Psychosocial Oncology.
- Identifying, selecting and monitoring key performance indicators (KPI) by which to assess performance of the Journal and its editorial team.
- Continuing to increase the citations of Journal content.
- Communicating regularly with the Board of Directors (BOD) of the Association of Oncology Social Work (AOSW) and addressing BOD input about the Journal
- Ensuring that the Journal content is consistent with the Mission, Vision and Goals of AOSW
Application package:
- A current curriculum vitae. Candidates for the position should:
- Have recognized standing in psychosocial oncology
- Have a broad knowledge of the field; holding a tenured position at an academic institution or academic medical center with direct oversight in oncology social work is preferred.
- Hold a MSW and PhD degree in social work, psychology, oncology or related field
- Be experienced in editorial decision making
- Have a distinguished record of publications in some area of oncology social work research and/or practice
- Be highly skilled in editing and writing
- Be a member in good standing of AOSW
- A vision statement outlining the applicant's:
- Experience in editing and publishing
- Evaluation of Journal of Psychosocial Oncology’s current content, organization, appearance and policies along with recommendations for change, if any.
- Specific objectives he or she wants to achieve over the duration of the term.
- Strategies to increase readership, reputation and impact factor.
- At least two letters of reference and two additional references which AOSW reserves the right to contact via phone or email during the selection process.
